Hi there! Today, we’ll learn to crochet a gigantic teddy (gigantic at least for me – he’s a full 20 cm [7.9 inches] tall!). All you need are a few skeins of yarn, a crochet hook, safety eyes and some stuffing. This loveable little fellow is easy to make and will capture everyone’s heart!
Materials and tools.
- Any suitable yarn in two colors. Sample shown made from YarnArt jeans (50 g – 160 m [1.75 oz – 175 yds], 55% cotton, 45% acrylic). For one teddy, you will need about 200 m [219 yds] in main color and 10 m [11 yds] in a contrasting lighter color.
- Thin cotton thread for the nose. For sample shown, Iris “Gamma” was used.
- 50 cm [20 in] of any white yarn + sewing thread for attaching eyes.
- Stuffing (polyester fiberfil).
- A crochet hook 2.0 mm [US steel hook 4, UK 2½].
- A crochet hook 1.0 mm [US steel hook 12, UK 6½] for the nose.
- Safety eyes, diameter 12 mm [0.47 in].
- Large sewing needle for joining parts.
- Round-nose pliers (to easier pull out needles).
- Removable marker (or paper clip) to mark the beginning of the round – the toy is worked in spiral rounds without stepping up for height adjustment.
